The Renaissance

The Renaissance
Beginning in Italy around 1400, new trade routes allowed
individuals to gain wealth and power, developing a growing middle class
of merchants. These nobles employed master painters and sculptors like
Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo to look back to the Greeks for inspiration while developing new exciting three-dimentional effect using techniques and skills never before seen in art. Linear perspective seemed to dissolve the painted surface into vast outside landscapes creating new realities for the viewer.
